Urhobo youths petition EFCC over alleged scam in FUPRE

ASABA—COALITION of Urhobo Youths Organization, CUYO, haspetitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, urging it to investigate the alleged financial recklessnessand misappropriation of funds by the Governing Council of Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, FUPRE, Delta State.It called for the dissolution of the Governing Council and prosecution of those behind the alleged financial and economic crimes.The group alleged that the Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Amange, got one of his companies, Tonye Ojoko and Company, registered with the university and allegedly used it “to withdraw the sum of N300 million from the institution’s account on October 14, 2014, the same day he sacked the ViceChancellor, Prof. Efu Efeotor, after compelling him to endorse the withdrawal.”Contacted,  Senator Amange said that the issue of fund raising was common in institutions, adding that a committee was set up with Senator Oyofor as chairman.He said that the fund raising was a continuous exercise.Saying that the other allegations were laughable, he referred our correspondent to the Registrar for further clarification on the allegations.But when contacted, the Registrar described the allegation as untrue, saying, “This is laughable. Where do we get all that funds from?”
